We have a fondness for traditional and retro styles, believing that designs that "go too far ahead" are prone to disappearing from people's view hastily. Do you remember the glittering mosaics that rose in the 2000s or the ubiquitous milk green glass? On the contrary, there are places that always maintain elegance and never go out of style. Therefore, when we design, we want to retain traditional elements while being innovative.

In the project of ArtLane, while everyone suggested using LED screens, the designer chose neon tubes as the light source for the sign. Neon signs not only have aesthetic appeal but also symbolize the continuation of Hong Kong culture, leaving a more profound impression. At the same time, the owner wanted to show the youthful and vibrant feeling of ArtLane through the sign. Therefore, we adopted the theme of cyberpunk to prevent the neon typography and form from appearing old.

In the past, neon signs in Hong Kong were mostly made of iron, zinc or plastic. A thick iron letter bottom was used to highlight the neon letters. This time, it combines modern and traditional materials and craftsmanship. Compared with the thick zinc-iron letter bottom in the past, we used a thinner and more fashionable steel sheet letter bottom. The sign body is made of baked iron sheets into an irregular shape different from the past. Therefore, it is smoother and more delicate than traditional neon signs, can show a new feeling of cyberpunk and highlight the beauty of neon lights.
